Hay – Hee Dining Chair

The idea for Hee came from the desire to design an environmentally friendly chair whose materials would be easy to recycle. By making a chair from a single material, you avoid polluting transport routes between different production sites, and moreover, this simplifies the process of recycling.
The basic idea was to take an archetypal chair as a template and perfect it in every single detail, raising the design a class, simplifying the structure at the same time and improving functionality. The idea was to create a clean, simple chair that could fit in many places – modern, but not so time-specific that it couldn’t be used for a long time.
Nothing is superfluous about this chair, nothing mere ornamentation. No part could be removed without losing function. The chair looks playful on the outside, but the design in no way detracts from its function. Disposable mentality and environmental awareness do not go together.
Finding the balance was also crucial in the design – to combine functionality and aesthetics at a high level, exactly the right wire thickness had to be chosen. The chair is made of 11 mm thick steel and its shape is reminiscent of a sketch a three-dimensional pencil drawing.
Hee is available as a club chair, a dining chair or a bar chair. It can be seen in the new Oslo Opera House and the Australian Parliament, among other places. The stackable chairs are galvanized and p
